Software Freedom Day 2007 - wiki
Feedback on Software Freedom Day
Attendance can be broken down into three sectors (please add people missed):-
- Computerbank Volunteers 14, Adam, Alan, Barry, Ben, Cloud, David, Jan, Jessica, John, Kylie, Lex, Michael, Rob, Tony.
- Open Source Volunteers at least 14 - Ausom 2, Linuxchix: Claudine, Donna, LUV: Andrew 4 at least, MLUG: Paul, Mark 3 at least, PHP: Ben, Wireless: Grant, Sarah.
- General Public maybe 15 - 30 in first two hours
Photos taken at the Melbourne Town Hall between 11.30 and 1pm - numbers seem significantly down on last year.http://vic.computerbank.org.au/Members/jan/sfd07/zphotoslides.2007-09-18.1574238469/slide_show#show Photos identified by the time the photos was taken.
The computers worked very well and were a credit to the people who assembled them.
Having people out the front and greeters helped a lot.
The Penguin was a hit, has never had so many cuddles.
Suggestions for next time:
- Brainstorm alternate locations, events we could be part of.
- Screens savers that say Try Me or something catchy
- Burning station - check all ok the day before. Major hiccups having to cobble something together without warning this year.
- Have a setup coordinator to ensure we are ready by opening time and a volunteers coordinator on the day to allocate tasks for people volunteering on the day (can be the same person)
- Greeters - make sure we have plenty. Two people dropped out without prior warning this year.

We can use laptops and Computerbank computers to demo open source software. Flat screens will also be good. P4 class computers would also be good.
