Choice of Distro and More Info --kylie, Sat, 28 May 2005 18:55:00 +1000 reply
As per discussions with Jan, for the 3.2g it would be good (if possible, see note re OOO) to use the full distro, while for the under 3g we use the lean distro.

Using the full distro also gives us the opportunity to sell a copy of the guide for $11 full price or $5.50 for concession.

We'd also like to see something on the display computer, that way, people could easily have a look see.

Jan suggests we could market the low end boxes as a "try Linux" system.

Possible issue is with OpenOffice?...it will take a long time to load in 96RAM. Any suggestions?

If we use the CBV lean with abiword on all systems, we'd have to modify the user guide if we thought it was a good idea to provide it. I'd be happy to do this, but won't have it high on my to do list. :)

Which Distro to Use? --jsimpson, Mon, 20 Jun 2005 18:15:34 +1000 reply
I was thinking we could use the Lean Distro with some additions for the Shop Computers, since we will be using P2 300-350, we should add in more multimedia apps, a few more games ( Inc Doom ), maybe also some stuff like Tuxpaint and Educational Programs?

Any Suggestions?

Doing this with the Lean Distro --jsimpson, Fri, 01 Jul 2005 10:30:07 +1000 reply
We chose to use the Lean Distro for this, as we are only putting in 96mb of RAM and this Distro runs very fast on lower end machines with limited resources.
