Project Overview

Not much here yet. We are shipping 20 computers to the Cook Islands by mid to late March. The computers will be used in various community settings via Faith Action Ministry. Faith Action Ministry has a website at http://www.faithactionministry.org.au/index.html

We are hoping to ship our new custom ubuntu distribution. We will be shipping the P4's we used at linux.conf.au - these are p4 1.8 - p4 2.4. We will also include a couple of laptop style CD burners and DVD Readers if we have them. Hoping to send some spare parts and spare monitors too.

The group contact is based in Melbourne at the moment. More news soon.

Notes:

Kylie's notes (via IRC) on stuff we need to do.

<kylie> just making sure someone builds the computers

<kylie> when they shipped computers to goroka they did not box them

<kylie> they packed them into the container as tightly as thy could and then stuffed all the gaps with clothes

<kylie> made for better space utilisation

<kylie> organising a time for collection

<kylie> working out what kind of ppl power will be required when it happens

<kylie> trying to get ppl to help or schedule for wfd day

<kylie> liaise with wfd ppl to make sure they are aware of targets and dates to deliver

<kylie> labels ? maybe

<kylie> paperwork

<kylie> getting guides pritned * 20

<kylie> so liaising with front desk or finding a vol/wfd person to do it

<kylie> sometimes we need to know weights of stuff

<kylie> but in this case we dont

<kylie> weights, dimensions ...

<kylie> finding out if any special languages/apps should be included via the contact

<kylie> as the contact is in aus - maybe organise a training session or two

<kylie> follow up afterwards

<kylie> provide avenues for support

<kylie> via computerbank and the FOSS community

<kylie> one thing you might do is link the group to linux users in the cook islands

<kylie> if any exist

<kylie> maybe do some publicity

<kylie> so what do you think ???

<kylie> there might also be other hidden suprises
