This page has been set up to suggest and discuss changes to the way we handle requests for computers.
New Policies
- PII (> 350Mhz) desktops as standard, unless specified due to shortage of PIII standards.
- When laptops are available the minimum standard is a PII 300MHz or >
- All applicants 50 and older get a 17" monitor for free
- Offer of upgrade to a high end Pentium III for $30 (see comments below)
- Until 15" monitor stocks improve, we will supply 17" monitors as standard
- Until we run out, computers should be shipped with an external 28.8/33.3k modem for free
Changes to Application Processing
Due to the increase in the number of group applications, we now have a separate folder for these. Group applications are treated somewhat different to individual applications. Once a group application comes in, unless it is a request for a single computer, Computerbank coordinators and techies, will enter into further discussions with the group.
Important News
Until we receive more P3's we are assigning the remaining P3 standards to people who are using the computers for educational/employment purposes.
Supply 15" monitors as standard as stocks have improved.
We do not have any modems to supply to recipients as at 18/09/05. Recommend buying a second hand external modem from sources like computer trader (free magazine at most newsagents), trading post or ebay. Dick Smith Electronics sells a Linux compatible internal modem for $40.
While we allocate PIII desktops, we only have PII and Celeron style laptops.
The wait for a thin client network or other network is approximately one month.
The wait for individuals is around two months.

- Until 15" monitor stocks improve, we will supply 17" monitors as standard
