Partnership delivers results in Shepparton
On 2nd and 3rd November 2007, Computerbank Victoria in partnership with GHD, GOTAFE and McMedia handed over 36 computers to recently arrived refugees living in Shepparton Victoria. The computers were built, configured and checked by Work for the Dole participants. Each computer came with a training session, the Linux operating system and a range of software including word processor, spreadsheet, web browser, typing tutor, sound, cd player and a range of other applications.
The three hour training sessions, held at GOTAFE in Shepparton, were delivered by Computerbank, GHD, GOTAFE and members of the migrant communities. The Internet service provider, McMedia, has offered 3 months free dial-up Internet access to each family receiving a computer. GHD recently updated some of its computer hardware and donated the 36 recent model PCs and covered travel and associated costs. Computerbank tested and reconfigured the computers, loaded the Linux operating system and a bundle of open source software and led the training.
Computerbank Victoria was delighted to join in partnership with local businesses, the local TAFE and the migrant communites in Shepparton.
